In the originally published article [1] (DOI: 10.22514/sv.2024.043), post-publication review by the Editorial Office identified serious concerns.
This study is a single-center randomized controlled interventional clinical trial involving 100 children with severe pneumonia. According to the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations and the journal’s policy, all interventional clinical trials should be prospectively registered in a public clinical trial registry before the enrollment of the first participant. The authors confirmed that the trial was not prospectively registered.
Furthermore, the authors were unable to provide the original ethics approval documents from the Ethics Committee of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University or the written informed consent forms from the legal guardians of the 100 participating children. Although the authors stated that ethical approval and informed consent had been obtained, they explained that the original documents have been lost due to the time elapsed and institutional archival changes. This prevents the journal from verifying the ethical compliance of the research, particularly as it involves a vulnerable population (children).
These fundamental issues—the lack of prospective trial registration and the inability to verify ethical approval and informed consent documentation—undermine the reliability of the reported findings and the journal’s ability to confirm that the study was conducted in accordance with ethical standards and applicable regulations.
Accordingly, the Editorial Office has decided to retract this article. The authors have been notified of this decision. This Retraction has been approved by the Editor-in-Chief. The original article PDF remains available with a “RETRACTED” watermark for transparency. This retraction has been issued to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.
